Foster Youth Programs

The Bear Cub Scholars Program (formerly known as NextUp and Guardian Scholars) provides services to current or former foster youth attending Santa Rosa Junior College. Our mission is to empower our students by providing them with the support they need to reach their academic goals.  We offer academic counseling, financial assistance, and educational resources to encourage a successful and enriching college experience for all of the students we serve.

To qualify:

• You must have been in foster care, a group home, kinship, guardianship, or another type of out-of-home placement for at least one day during your life.

• Be enrolled in a minimum of 3 for credit academic units

• Be 35 years of age or younger


Assistance offered to most students:

• Academic counseling

• Help with purchase of books and school supplies

• Helpful, fun, and enriching workshops

• A supportive community, including your peers

• Financial assistance

• Laptop, wi-fi hotspot and other technology services needed to be successful
